(I’ve lost track of which day I’m on. I missed one here and there so no more numbered days on post titles! I’m still fasting from facebook until Easter.)
Driving to work was cheering today since instead of gray foggy heaviness there was a wide open blue sky. I so enjoy the artwork of God! Many times the beauty of what He’s made draws me closer to Him and causes me to worship. A few wispy clouds gathered around the bright orange disc of a sun, almost as if they were coaxing it to come up – up through God’s watercolor splash of soft orange fading to warm apricot then to faint pink then to clear aqua blue. It was stunning.
I didn’t even pull my visor down but actually enjoyed the piercing light of the sun in my eyes, as it rose now fully awake, big and bold and enjoying its task of announcing a new day had begun. New. That word became my mind’s sole focus for the next few moments as I kept driving…driving into a new day. “This IS a new day,” I could hear God say to my heart. “I’m the Creator of all things new: new starts, new possibilities, new mercy, new growth, new freedom as you trust in Me. Sing a new song to me.” I pondered what He said. Maybe one reason God loves a new song is because it is a fresh expression of praise from our hearts, from where we stand in this day. It’s not a song from days already past, from experiences already had and learned from. It’s a song born out of the now, the present. I didn’t actually sing out loud but my heart took over and began to thank God and praise Him for all the new in my life.
How I need a new start today, Lord. I can never thank you enough for giving me new mercy each and every morning that I wake up. I thank you on behalf of my daughter who needs some newness from You. Thank you for the new things you’re doing in our life, the new opportunities you’re creating that I’m not even aware of. I’m so glad you’re a God of promise and hope, a living God who makes things grow and stretch toward Your light and flourish there. You’re a God of tender new green shoots, of soft pink baby fingers and toes, of fresh watercolor sunrises. You’re a God of stony hearts thought to be beyond hope turned to living flesh, of empty souls parched and thirsty filled to overflowing with swells of crystal clear, cold, refreshing, living water. You’re a God of new direction – of lost ones turned around to find You ready with a forgiving, welcoming embrace. Your creativity is endless. When we think all resources, ideas, and solutions have been exhausted You delight in surprising us as you provide, orchestrate, and work Your wonders.
Watch for it, expect it, wait for it. Today God is going to show you something, do something, answer a prayer, make a way, mark out a path, pour out blessing…and it won’t exactly like anything before.
He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:3 NLT
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
[God says]…forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
19 For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19
I’ll give you a new heart. I’ll put a new spirit in you. Ezekiel 11:19 The Msg
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. Colossians 3:10 NLT
For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. I Peter 1:23
