Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind, “Pooh!”, he whispered.

“Yes, Piglet?” “Nothing.”, said Piglet, taking Pooh’s paw. “I just wanted to be sure of you “.

Today I find myself wanting to sidle up next to Jesus and take His hand, just to be sure of Him. The blahs invaded and I find myself feeling like I don’t really care about anything today. I’ve been thinking this afternoon about why I might be feeling like this, kind of drifting a little too far from God, far enough to disconnect from that lovely peace I have when I’m in close fellowship with Him.

I think part of the reason is fatigue – tiredness from not knowing what or when or where or how the next phase of our family’s life is going to unfold. At the same time I realize that I’m supposed to live in this day, care about others in this day, seek to be closer to God and know Him more this day. Maybe part of the reason is that I forget that He will give me everything I need to be who He made me to be and do what He wants me to do.  (II Peter 1:3-4)  Maybe as I reach out my little hand and hold onto Jesus’ scarred, strong hand my heart will start beating a little stronger again.

There’s a new song by a band called “Satellites & Sirens” called “Anchor” that I’ve come to love. In it are the words:

When I feel like I am drifting away
Sinking down, the sands are shifting today
I’m about to lose my way
You anchor, anchor me down
Looking out the skies are turning to gray
All around the tide is pulling away
Just about to lose my way
You anchor, anchor me down

I’m kind of like a little child at the playground who, every now and then, runs over to her mom to make sure she’s still there, then runs back to play with the other kids, secure and ready to have fun.

I just want to be sure of you, Jesus.

Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received!  II Peter 1:3-4  The Message
