It just gets too quiet sometimes around our house these days.  Now that two of our girls are in college and our youngest is gone often with friends, I miss those sounds I’ve loved all throughout our life.  I miss the sounds of the girls giggling, talking, singing in their rooms or playing instruments, playing video games, having friends in and putting on plays, running in and outside the house, and just life.  I miss the sound of them walking up and down the stairs, doing dishes in the kitchen while singing to their iPod, typing away on the computer keyboard across the room, talking on their phones, or even watching TV.  Those sounds let me know my girls were home.

Last weekend all my girls were here, along with my oldest daughter’s boyfriend.  As John and I went to bed at night, I heard their footsteps upstairs, their happy voices talking, and some singing from time to time in the shower.  I told John, “I’m so happy to hear that noise upstairs.  I’ve missed it.”

I wonder if God misses the noise of us just being around Him when we wander off or stay away.  I think he loves to hear the noise of his people singing, praying and talking when they gather to have church.  I wonder if he says to Himself, “I’m so happy to hear the noise of my kids.  I miss it when they’re gone away from me.”

If His love for all his children is magnified infinitely beyond my love for my girls, which I’m sure it is, then it must delight Him to have us near, no matter what noise we are making, even if we’re crying or just living day-to-day life close to His side.  I’m pretty sure that’s why He’s building a room for each of us to be with Him forever someday in heaven.  Jesus told us so.

Think about that today. Your heavenly Father, God, loves you so much and longs to have you near Him like a mom (like me) longs to have her kids near. He wants to hear about your day and see you, just because you’re His child.   I can just picture Him smiling at the sound of his children running around, talking, singing, laughing, and truly living at home with Him…the noise upstairs.

Jesus said…”There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I wouldn’t tell you this, unless it was true. I am going there to prepare a place for each of you. After I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together.”  John 14:2 CEV
